Stance Off

The Premise

Strike a pose against a friend in this alternate controller fighting game! As a ninja mastering mystic arts, take stances to unleash a variety of different attacks, all the while trying to fake out your opponent to gain the upper hand! Stance Off was developed by our team of 6 over the course of a 4-day game jam based around alt controllers, using an Xbox Kinect V2 for motion capture.

  • Team Lead

    • Helped to organize the team and unify team goals and product visions

    • Lead team discussions and assisted in navigating team conflicts

  • Gameplay Designer

    • Ideated early game concepts and worked with teammates to select and solidify a pitch

    • Designed and implemented game mechanics

    • Prepared a playtest protocol and facilitated testing

    • Worked alongside teammates to form conclusions and next steps based on feedback received

  • Lead Programmer

    • Implemented assets created by teammates into the game and programmed mechanic functionality

    • Worked alongside teammates to ensure each team member was getting their say in discussions and our workflow remained organized

    • Ensured a fair and engaging experience through purposeful balance decisions based on observations from both internal testing and external playtests

Challenges Faced

  • Extreme technical difficulties late in development that forced our team to make drastic design changes to meet our deadline

    • Overcame by comparing our project direction with possible solutions to determine the most efficient way forward without compromising the core experience of our game

  • Unbalanced team skill distribution

    • Overcame by remaining adaptable and altering our workflow to allow flexibility in areas of development that are most unfamiliar, as well as taking charge in those areas and not allowing our knowledge limitations to bar us from our design intentions
